Transfer from same thread as previous post.

People and Stories of Canada is a school book currently being used in Manitoba. I bought it at "Le salon du livre" last year. I never tried to get it through the usual channels. The teacher's guide is here:

http://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/cur/socstud/foundation_gr5/index.html

Another link for the teacher's guide:

Here's the info I have, in case someone wants to order through a library

Authors: Michele Visser-Wikkerink and E. Leigh Simms

@2007

Portage & Main Press

ISBN 978-55379-092-1

And here's the book

http://www.portageandmainpress.com/book_detail.cfm?biD=147

And here's the French version

http://www.cheneliere.ca/main+fr+01_500+Sciences_humaines_LE_CANADA_AVANT_1867__PEUPLES_ET_RECITS_manuel_-_5e_annee.html?DivisionID=2&ItemID=190

which can be ordered online, ironically

Kids Book of Canadian History by Carlotta Hacker. For ages 9-12.

Kids Book of Canada (geography) by Barbara Greenwood. For ages 9-12.

The Story of Canada - Please note that this is not the same as the one written by Janet Lunn. This one was put out by World Book/Childcraft. It is a very easy to read book with lots of color paintings. I think it would be a great intro to Canadian history for the younger ages. I bought it used online. ISBN # 0-7166-6456-9

We're using Janet Lunn's "The Story of Canada", ISBN # 1-55263-928-2.

Also, Derek Hayes' "Canada: An Illustrated History", ISBN # 978-1-55365-259-5.

Those are the main 'texts', and I've added "The Spirit of Canada", ISBN 0-7737-6200-0 for interesting readings/poetry. "Canada Votes", ISBN 1-55453-091-1, for the voting process, and "Symbols of Canada" ISBN 0-660-18615-2 (published by the Dept. of Canadian Heritage).

I'll post later the myriads and multitudes of readalouds and readers dd has been loving. Her only complaint with Sonlight cores has been "not enough books", so I've been throwing books and books at her. But that's for another day!
